The 'Joyce' family flag from the14 Tribes of Galway display on Eyre Square has disappeared. The flag, which was mounted on a pole in the city centre, was removed from its regular location over the weekend. Galway City Council have appealed for its safe return. "It seems that somebody somehow managed to climb the pole over the weekend and took the flag. Some damage happened in the process, but all we want is the flag back'" said a council spokesperson.

The Joyce flag is the second of the banners to disappear in recent weeks as the 'Skerritt' family flag also went AWOL, but it has since been replaced.

"We are not sure how they got up there to remove the flag. We suspect that it wasn't a one person operation and maybe somebody helped them up. It will cost almost €900 to replace the banner, so hopefully we'll get it back in one piece," said the spokesperson.
